Prohibited Items Policy

What can never be listed on Swaptico, what is restricted, what requires verification or documentation, and which categories use a specialised workflow.
1. How the policy works
Swaptico's category policy engine controls what can be listed in each category and market. Items fall into one of five bands: PROHIBITED (never allowed), RESTRICTED (allowed with conditions), VERIFICATION REQUIRED (identity or ownership checks before trading), DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED (specific documents must be provided), and SPECIALISED WORKFLOW (a structured, gated process — currently vehicles and property). The band that applies to a category is enforced by the platform and visible in the listing flow. Attempting to bypass a gate — for example listing a vehicle in a general category to avoid verification — is treated as abuse.
2. Prohibited — never list
The following may never be listed, swapped or promoted on Swaptico, in any jurisdiction: stolen goods; counterfeit goods, including fake designer, luxury and branded items; weapons and firearms (including parts, ammunition and realistic replicas); controlled substances and drugs; hazardous, flammable or dangerous materials; prescription-only and regulated medical products; products derived from endangered species (CITES-listed); and anything else that is illegal to trade in your jurisdiction or the jurisdiction of the other participant. Listings in these bands are removed, and repeated attempts are treated as serious abuse.
3. Restricted — allowed with conditions
Some categories are allowed but subject to conditions. Luxury goods (for example luxury watches, jewellery and designer goods) are restricted because of counterfeit risk: listings require an authenticity declaration and may be reviewed before they go live. Items in these categories are reviewed for authenticity signals, and genuine items remain tradeable. Do not list an item in a restricted category unless you can make the required declarations truthfully.
4. Verification required
The following require verification before a transaction can proceed: vehicles (identity, ownership, vehicle history and finance/lien checks); property (identity, ownership, jurisdiction and professional review); and high-value items above the configured thresholds in your market (identity verification). Verification is performed by a human reviewer against genuine, current documents. Transactions stay in a pending state until verification completes — never claim a transaction is verified when it has not been.
5. Documentation required
Depending on the category, you may be asked to provide: identity documents, proof of address, ownership proof, vehicle registration, vehicle history, finance clearance, valuation or inspection reports, or a legal contract. Documents are reviewed securely and retained only for the configured validity period (for example identity documents up to 2 years, proof of address 90 days). Never upload another person's documents, and never fabricate or alter documents.
6. Specialised workflow — vehicles
Vehicle swaps use a specialised workflow: identity and ownership verification, vehicle-history and finance/lien checks, and a structured handover. A cash adjustment is allowed up to the limit shown in the app. Swaptico coordinates and documents the swap — it does not transfer legal ownership, and you are responsible for completing the legal transfer (registration, title and tax) through the proper process in your jurisdiction.
7. Specialised workflow — property
Property is the most tightly gated category. Property swaps require identity and ownership verification, jurisdiction checks, professional/legal review and a contract stage, and a professional (such as a conveyancer or solicitor) is required. Cash adjustments are capped at the limit shown in the app. Swaptico's workflow facilitates and documents the process and connects you to professionals — it never performs conveyancing, and it does not transfer legal ownership of property. Property transactions do not complete until the professional and legal requirements in the relevant jurisdiction are met.
8. Stolen goods and lawful possession
Stolen goods are prohibited. Every seller warrants that they own, or lawfully possess with the right to swap, every item they list. For serialised items (for example phones with IMEI, vehicles with VIN), the platform checks for duplicate serial numbers across active listings and may check external stolen-item registries where the operator has configured one. If you believe an item you received is stolen, report it to us and to the police rather than returning it to the seller yourself.
9. Consequences
Listings that breach this policy are removed. Depending on the severity and whether the breach was deliberate or repeated, consequences may include: listing removal, transaction cancellation, temporary restriction, account suspension, permanent ban, preservation of evidence, and reporting to relevant authorities — including the police — where legally required or appropriate. Attempts to evade these rules (mis-categorising items, using code words, offering prohibited items in messages) are treated as serious abuse.
